Taking care of one’s mental health

Good mental health affects how we think, feel, and act, both at work and in our private lives. When we are in good mental shape, we tend to be more productive, creative, and engaged. It is essential that we all take responsibility for our mental health and support colleagues who may be struggling.
Norway has a special focus on mental health during weeks 39 to 42, leading up to World Mental Health Day on 10 October, a day recognized worldwide by the World Health Organization. This period is an opportunity for all of us to raise awareness about mental health, break the stigma associated with mental health issues, and encourage open conversations about mental well-being. At Omega 365, we want to take part in this important conversation and ensure that our workplace is a place where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.
What can you do to maintain your mental health?
Here are some tips to strengthen your mental well-being:
- Set boundaries and take breaks: It is essential to find a balance between work and leisure. Make sure to take regular breaks throughout the day and avoid overworking.
- Talk about it: Share how you are feeling with a colleague, friend, or manager. Expressing your emotions can often lighten the burden. Remember, it is okay not to be okay sometimes.
- Physical activity: Regular physical activity can help reduce stress and improve mood. Even short walks or light exercise can make a big difference.
- Prioritize sleep and healthy nutrition: Sleep and proper diet significantly impact how we feel. Ensure you get enough rest and eat regularly to maintain energy and focus.
- Be mindful of your stress levels: Learn to recognize the signs of stress, such as irritability, fatigue, or difficulty concentrating. Take action early, such as taking a break, practicing breathing techniques, or talking to someone.
- Seek counselling: If you are struggling with your mental health, do not hesitate to seek professional help. Talking to a mental health professional, such as a psychologist or counselor, can provide valuable support and strategies for managing stress, anxiety, or other challenges. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Reporting concerns
If you are concerned about your own or a colleague's mental health, do not hesitate to contact your immediate supervisor. It is essential that we work together to create a safe and inclusive work environment where everyone feels seen and heard.
